Mike
Anderson, LICSW Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Adult Services Clinical Supervisor
|
Mike obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther College in Decorah, IA, and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Mike has been employed at the Northwestern Mental Health Center since 1996. He provides psychotherapy services at the Centers’ Crookston and Fosston sites. Mike enjoys working with teens, families, adults and couples. He also facilitates the Domestic Abuse Treatment Program for men who have been abusive to their partners. Mike has advanced training in the areas of serious and persistent mental illness, men’s issues, relationship issues, depression and domestic violence. Mike is married to Brenda, who also works at the Northwestern Mental Health Center as the Director of Family & Children’s Services. A transplanted “Cheesehead” Mike has grown to love life on the prairie. He lives with Brenda and their two young children in Crookston. Mike enjoys reading, photography, music, traveling, playing golf and watching sports.

Rebecca Anderson Community Mental Health Specialist

Becky Anderson has been employed at Northwestern Mental Health Center since 1992 as a Community Mental Health Specialist. Prior to that, she was employed as a Program Supervisor for over 11 years at a Class A Group Home for Adults with developmental disabilities in Karlstad. Becky currently provides individual and group services to clients in Kittson County. |

Kerri Davis,
M.S. Community Mental Health Specialist, Outreach Employability Facilitator

Kerri Davis joined NWMHC as an Outreach Employability Facilitator. Kerri received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of North Dakota. Kerri earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary & secondary education and a Master’s degree with concentrations in educational leadership and counseling. Kerri came to NWMHC with an employment background in education and counseling. As the Outreach Employability Facilitator, Kerri serves all six counties. The primary goal of Outreach Employability Facilitator is to increase competitive employment opportunities and provide rehabilitative services to maintain gainful employment for NWMHC clients. |

Jodi
DiMaggio Community Mental Health Specialist

Jodi DiMaggio received her Associates degree in occupational therapy with emphasis on mental health from Northland Community College in May 2007. Jodi received her license after completing her field work with several affiliates, including the Stadter Center in 2008 and joined the Northwestern Mental Health Center Staff in August 2008. Jodi is primarily based in Red Lake County and also serves East Polk County. Jodi resides in East Grand Forks, MN with her four children. |

Jessie
Forness Community Mental Health Specialist

Jessie Forness received her bachelor's degree in social work from the University of North Dakota in August 2008. Jessie completed her field practice at PATH-ND, Inc. and then joined the Northwestern Mental Health Center Staff in September 2008. Jessie will be covering Red Lake County and East Polk County. Jessie resides outside of Crookston with her husband. |

Cheryl Forfang, M.A. Coordinator of Homeless Programs

Cheryl Forfang began her employment with the Disaster Response Network after the flood of ‘97. She moved to the Homeless Intervention Programs in 2000 and became the Coordinator in 2001. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Moorhead State University and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from UND. She served her master’s internship at the UMC Counseling Center. East Grand Forks Technical College (as a counselor and founder of the CARE Center) and Hospice of the Red River Valley (as a bereavement counselor) were two previous employers. She serves clients in Kittson and Polk County and is responsible for the administration of the 4-5 grants of the Homeless Intervention Programs plus supervision of the program staff. |

Denise Gudvangen,
M.A., LP Adult Community Services Coordinator

Denise Gudvangen earned her Bachelor’s of Art in Psychology from Moorhead State University and her Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota Duluth. She started working at the Northwestern Mental Health Center in 1993 as a Professional Home Based Therapist in the Children and Family Services Division. In 1998 she became licensed as a Psychologist in the state of Minnesota and began doing some clinical supervision in the Children and Family Services Unit and in Day Treatment in the Adult Services Program. She continued doing home based family therapy and her clinical supervision roles until 2001 at which time she moved into being a clinical supervisor in the Adult Services Program full time. In 2004 she became the Adult Services Coordinator with the Adult Services Program. Denise is a native of Warren, Minnesota. She currently resides in Fertile, Minnesota with her husband and their two daughters.

Hammer, MSW Community Mental Health Specialist, Corrections Coordination Specialist

Denise Hammer completed her master’s degree in social work from the University of North Dakota in August, 2007. She did her master’s field placement with Altru Hospice and Grief Center. Her bachelor’s degree is in social work from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, MN. She has been a social worker in Crookston for 27 ½ years. She has worked with adult consumers with mental illness for 17 years, both as a Polk County Case Manager and in residential services at Northwestern Apartments. Denise became employed at NWMHC as a Community Mental Health Specialist/Corrections Coordination Facilitator in Sept. 2007. She is primarily based in Polk County. |

Suzanne
Staver, M.A. Community Mental Health Specialist

Suzanne Staver came to us after completing her master’s degree in psychology from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 2006. Her bachelor’s degree is in psychology is from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, MN. She has experience with cognitive-behavioral treatment strategies which makes her an ideal candidate for providing group-based treatment within the Adult Services Program and she has taken a leadership role in developing some new group offerings for our clients. She is based in Polk County. |

Michal Jorgens, Psy.D.,
LP Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Residential Program Director
|
Dr. Michal Jorgens
is a licensed
clinical psychologist. She works with a wide range of individuals, and
specializes in working with the most severe disabilities. She earned a
doctorate in clinical psychology from Minnesota School of Professional
Psychology/Argosy University in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Dr. Jorgens
works part of the week in the outpatient clinic doing testing, psychological
evaluation and individual therapy. She is also the Director of residential
services for the Mental Health Center’s programs at Northwestern Apartments
in Crookston. Dr. Jorgens has an extensive background in developmental
disabilities, having provided administration and consultation to such
programs for over 15 years. She was appointed to and served on the
Governor’s Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities. Michal’s APA
internship training included forensic evaluation, inpatient psychiatric
treatment and assessment, and assessment and treatment of developmentally
disabled adults.
Dr.
Jorgens has served as an adjunct faculty at University of Minnesota,
Crookston, since 1995.

Veronica Knoll is a licensed social worker who received her Bachelor’s degree from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, MN. She has past social work experience in Norman and Marshall county social services. She lives in Argyle, MN and works primarily in Marshall County as a Community Mental Health Specialist. Veronica has been with the agency since May 1989. |

Connie Lubinski Community Mental Health Specialist, Community Employability Facilitator

Connie Lubinski has over 20 years experience in the mental health field and has an educational background in Family Services from the University of Minnesota, Crookston and Social Work from Bemidji State University. She began employment at Northwestern Apartments as a Community Living Advisor in 1986 and joined the Northwest Mental Health Center team in 1988 where she spent a number of years providing Community Support Services and Adult Rehabilitative Services with emphasis on employment services primarily in Polk County. Connie currently manages the Novel Cup, (supported work site) where she provides individual employment skills training on site as well as in a group setting in preparation for community employment. |

Shelly Petrik,
M.S. Community Mental Health Specialist, Chemical Dependency Coordination Facilitator

Shelly Petrik completed her BS in Criminal Justice and Psychology at University of Nebraska at Omaha which is where she also completed her Masters Degrees in Criminal Justice and Counseling. She is completing her LADC through Bemidji State University. She has worked for the last 22 years in the mental health field in a variety of settings including adolescent residential treatment, child and family in-home therapy, school settings, and outpatient and inpatient work with SPMI, dually diagnosed, and chemically dependent individuals. Her role at NWMHC is as a Community Mental Health Specialist and Chemical Dependency Coordination Facilitator. She covers primarily Mahnomen County, but duties may take her into Norman and Polk Counties as well. |

Dr. Thea Rothmann is a licensed clinical psychologist who earned her doctoral and master’s degrees at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska and went on to complete her internship at the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, Maine. Previously, Thea obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Spanish in 2001 from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Thea provides outpatient psychotherapy and psychological assessment in the Crookston office. In the Adult Services’ Division, she provides leadership and supervision for Crisis Services, Illness Management & Recovery, Employability, and other areas. |

Sheril Schluchter,

Sheril Schlucter began outreach with the Disaster Response Network after the flood of "97. In 2000 she began outreach with the Homeless Intervention Programs. Sheril earned her BS in Criminal Justice and BA in Psychology at the University of North Dakota. She works as a Community Housing Specialist in Polk and Marshall Counties working with homeless individuals who have either chemical or mental health issues. |

Carrie Serna comes to us after completing her Masters degree in Counseling from the University of North Dakota in May 2003. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of North Dakota in December 2000. Her experience working with adult consumers with mental illnesses spans back almost 10 years. She has worked in residential, hospital, and university settings. Carrie serves Polk County clients both individually and in group work. Besides her duties as a community mental health professional, Carrie leads the flex funds committee and manages food bank orders. |

Sheri

Sheri Solheim comes to us after working as the Kairos House Group Home Coordinator through Lutheran Social Services for several years. She has a master’s degree in counseling from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo, Colorado. In addition to her general job responsibilities as a Community Mental Health Specialist, she serves as the Youth Transition Coordination Facilitator. This position is geared towards helping clients establish meaningful adult roles and involves special collaboration with programs that would be beneficial to clients in this age range (e.g., schools, universities, employers). Her position in Adult Services coordinates well with the System of Care grant in Children’s Services which also addresses services for transition age youth. |

Gail Williams has a master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Moorhead State University. She is a National Certified Counselor. She provides direct service for clients in Polk County as well as coordinates referrals into the Community Support Services. |
