  • FEMA for Kids (11-19-04) -- This site teaches children how to be prepared for disasters such as earthquakes, wild fires, winter storms, and more. You can also learn what causes disasters, play games, and read stories. http://www.fema.gov/kids
  • Good Samaritan Laws (by State) (11-28-05) -- The "Good Samaritan Law" is based on the philosophy that good deeds should not be punished. The first Good Samaritan law was passed in 1959. Since then, all states have passed legislation intended to encourage timely voluntary emergency care. The law trades or cancels the right of a person to hold the rescuer responsible for a bad outcome in exchange for immunity that encourages people to step forward and perform acts of rescue or first aid. http://lessstress.com/instructor/legal.htm
  • Hurricane Help for Schools (10-05-05) -- The U.S. Department of Education has set up a Web page – "Hurricane Help for Schools" – that will serve as a clearinghouse of resources for Americans who want to help the students displaced by the hurricane. This Web page is a forum where schools, companies and organizations across the country can come together and work to help students displaced by the hurricane. Companies and organizations can respond to the needs of students and send resources directly to them, and schools will be able to directly contact the companies and organizations offering help. http://www.ed.gov/katrina
  • Hurricane help for schools: Providing supplies for schools (09-19-05) -- This webpage will serve as a nationwide clearinghouse addressing the needs of the affected children and the schools and districts serving displaced students. Schools may list the items they need, from school supplies to personal items to counseling resources, and these requests are then posted on the site.   • Minnesota Responds Medical Reserve Corps (08-23-07) -- Minnesota Responds Medical Reserve Corps (MN Responds MRC) is part of a nationwide initiative to pre-register, manage, and mobilize volunteers to help their communities respond to all types of disasters. The Minnesota Department of Health provides the framework for coordinating multiple local, regional and state based programs of volunteers who have medical, public health, or other needed skills. The structure of each MN Responds MRC unit varies, depending on its own unique requirements and on the needs of the people and community that it serves.   • Multi-Hazard Emergency Planning for Schools (12-21-06) -- This on-line, independent study course will help educators and first responders develop effective emergency operations plans for the wide array of potential emergencies that schools face.
