Ways We Can Help
Help for Children, Families,
and Adults
When problems make life difficult, professional counseling and therapy are often useful. By helping people understand their problems, we can help them find new ways to cope. Through counseling, people learn to understand how problems have developed, and what they can do to solve those problems. We help individuals learn to know when stress is causing difficulties, and how to handle stress in more effective ways. When there are conflicts within a family, we can help family members learn skills that will help reduce the level of conflict. We have special services for children and families who may need a little extra help at times.
Help for Victims of Abuse or Trauma
Sometimes people are badly hurt by situations they can't control, and they may experience emotional and psychological suffering. The hurt may come from such things as having a friend die in a fire or train wreck. It may be from deliberate hurt such as rape or being "mugged" in a robbery. It could be from a natural disaster, like a flood, that affects a whole community. Many children and adults are victims of physical or sexual abuse. We help people handle the effects that such experiences may have even many years after the even is over. It isn't easy, but we can help the wounds heal, and help people recover a sense of peace.
Emergency
Services
(for anyone, regardless of ability to pay)
If you are feeling overwhelmed, if things are getting out of control, and you need assistance NOW--we can help. If you are thinking about suicide--we can help. Our emergency services include unscheduled "drop-in" appointments at the mental health center, talking with our staff by phone, and a 24-hour "crisis line" for personal and family emergencies. Call (800) 282-5005.
Help for Adults with Long Term Mental Health Problems
Some people have to cope with severe psychiatric disorders that can seriously interfere with their lives. For these individuals and their families we provide a broad range of services. These include a live-in center for intensive treatment and skill training, with follow-up services for people discharged into the local area. We also offer a community support program that includes home visits to help people remain in their homes rather than hospitalized. We have day treatment programs that provide support, and teach specific skills to improve or maintain functioning. When needed, our consulting psychiatrist can provide medication.
